Accessibility
This site is meant to work for everyone. Here is how, and how to tell us when it doesn't.
Barcelo & Associates Insurance wants every Houston household to be able to read, navigate, and use this site — with a keyboard, a screen reader, a magnifier, on a small phone, or with motion turned down. The target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA.
What the site does
Built in, not bolted on.
- Semantic structure
- Every page uses real landmarks — header, navigation, main, footer — and a single, ordered heading outline, so screen readers can jump section to section.
- Keyboard first
- Every link, button, menu, form control, and tool works from the keyboard alone. A "skip to content" link is the first thing on every page, and focus is always visible.
- Readable contrast
- Text and control colors are checked against the WCAG AA contrast ratios in both the light page background and the dark navigation.
- Motion and animation
- Smooth scrolling and transitions are turned off automatically when a device asks for reduced motion. Nothing auto-plays.
- Text alternatives
- Meaningful images carry descriptive alternative text; decorative ones are hidden from assistive technology. Figures on the flood data pages have text equivalents.
- Forms and tools
- The free tools label every field, announce their results through live regions, keep touch targets at least 44 pixels, and work without an account. Nothing is saved or sent.
- Two languages, equal depth
- Every page exists in English and Spanish with the same scope, and each declares its language so assistive technology pronounces it correctly.
Known limitations
What we cannot fully control.
- Third-party sites this site links to — Allstate MyAccount and claims, Google, WalletHub, government sources — have their own accessibility practices. We choose official sources but do not control them.
- Documents customers send to the office (photos of declarations pages, lease wording) are handled by phone and in person, not published here.
- The tool pages use modern browser features for their selected-option styling; in very old browsers the controls still work, they just look plainer.
Report a barrier
Tell us what got in the way.
If any part of this site is hard to use, call or text the office and describe the page and what happened. Requests are answered as quickly as we can, usually within a few business days, and the fix is made on the site itself rather than through a workaround.
